Originally written in '56 by a member of DooWop giants the Cadillacs, it was recorded by a 14-year old singer named Barbie Gaye. Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records picked up on it in the late 50's and was clearly instrumental in persuading Millie to record the tune. It was a smash internationally reaching No 2 both UK and US in '64 and propelling not only Millie but Jamaican music generally to enormous heights internationally.
