The Mar-keys had a million-selling hit in 1963 with 'Last Night' and gradually they morphed into the Stax Houseband, backing artists like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Carla Thomas on their various hits. The line-up changed around but the rhythm section interestingly consisted fairly permanently of Booker T & The MGs. This instrumental was a huge club hit in the UK in '66. Chartwise it reached No 89 Pop and No 19 RnB in the US in January of that year.
