The Isley Brothers had already had a considerable career in R n B before they joined Motown's roster in '65. This was their most successful single during their Motown career and is one of the most instantly recognisable records of the decade. Originally intended for the Supremes, the record rose to No 12 on the US Chart when released in '66. In the UK it made no 47 on release, largely on the back of club play in the North of England, but it made No 3 when it re-charted in the UK in August 1968.
