The song was first recorded by Girl Groups the Cookies (of 'Chains' fame) and then the Crystals. However it was the Drifters version (with slightly amended lyrics) which took the song to the charts. A big international hit with Rudy Lewis on lead vocals, and interestingly the guitar intro played by Phil Spector
