Born Bessie Gupton in Alabama, Ms Legend recorded under other names and found her way to Detroit where she was asked to record a demo for the locally-based Mala Label. It was'nt until years later that she discovered the record had been released without her knowledge ! It was picked up by DJ's at Wigan Casino and was a significant play in the halcyon days of 1975 at the all-nighter venue. It eventually became one of the '3 before 8', three records played before the doors closed at 8 am and will always be a major part of Northern Soul history.
